     Overview
________________
A total of 290 essays were received.  Over 95% of the essays were submitted electronically via email.  70% of the essays arrived on the last three days before the deadline; 50% of the essays were submitted on the last day!

The essays came from 43 of 50 states of U. S..   The highest number is from California, 26% of the total.  We were encouraged by the fact that essays came also from many countries around the globe:  Australia, Belarus, Canada, China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), England, Guam, India, Philippines, Singapore,  and Tajikistan.

The authors of the essays were from all walks of life: students, educators, lawyers, journalists, scientists, historians, human rights activists, businessmen, military personnel, homemakers, and others.  However, students were the majority, 80%, including middle school, high school, college undergraduate and graduate students.  We did not ask the age of the contestants, but from the voluntary information that the youngest was at middle school age (12 years old) and the oldest were retirees.

According to the comments from all the judges who reviewed the essays,    the essays of the Contest were  of excellent qualities.  One judge said that he wished to give everyone an award!
